A group from
The Parish Town
Historical Society visited the
Safe Haven Museum
and Education Center at Oswego, on May 5. There
they learned the dramatic story of nearly 1,000
World War II
Jewish refugees, and how they came to America on
the army transport
ship
Henry Gibbons in 1944, ending
up in
Fort Ontario as a guest of
President Franklin Roosevelt for the duration
of the War. For those that would like to read more on
the subject,
"Haven" by
Ruth Gruber was donated to the
Parish Public Library by Nancy Fairchild. The group
lunched at "Rudy's"
on the shores of Lake Ontario. A beautiful day was
enjoyed by all. Thank you Janet Clerkin for making the
arrangements.
